Vegan Gyros Taco with Tzatziki
We have a soft spot for tacos and love to experiment with them. Besides classics such as fish tacos (vegan, of course!), tostadas or taquitos, we also serve Korean tacos, ramen tacos, chanterelles tacos or even chocolate tacos. You can find all our taco recipes here.
We shrank the usual pita bread and created small gyros snacks for in between. Be careful because you could eat all those crispy fried potatoes directly from the pan. Our vegan marinade and soy meat turn into tasty gyros-like snacks, and the fresh salsa and vegan tzatziki makes us believe, that this won’t be our last gyros Taco Tuesday.
Vegan Gyros Taco with Tzatziki
6 Tacos
30 minutes
Ingredients
- 6 soft tacos
- 4 large potatoes
- 2 red onions
- 1/2 iceberg lettuce
- 400 g (14.1 oz) plant-based meat (soy meat, seitan ..)
FOR THE MARINADE
- 4 tbsp tomato purée
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp agave nectar
- 1 tsp lemon oil
- 1 tsp of each: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, cayenne, oregano, thyme, cilantro, marjoram and a pinch of cinnamon
FOR THE SALSA
- 1/2 cucumber
- 8 peppers
- 2 tbsp fresh oregano
FOR THE TZATZIKI
- 400 g (14.1 oz) plant-based curd (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cucumber
- 3 cloves of garlic
- salt&pepper
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients for the marinade and lay in the vegan meat for at least 30 minutes. Afterward, roast them in a pan with some oil until crispy.
- Wash and thinly slice potatoes. Take out a large pan, heat up some oil, put in potato slices and season with salt and pepper. Roast crispy from both sides. It will turn out best if you place those slices next to each other instead of on top of each other.
- In the meantime, wash and cut iceberg lettuce and peel and finely slice red onions.
- For the salsa, finely dice half of a cucumber and peppers. Chop oregano and mix everything.
- For the tzatziki, grate the other half of a cucumber and squeeze out water, until they are kind-of-dry. Peel and press cloves of garlic and stir in vegan curd together with cucumber. Season with salt and pepper.
- Time to taco! Spread some tzatziki on a taco, then add iceberg lettuce, fried potatoes, and gyros-like meat and finish with salsa and red onion.
